Coupling capacitor is used as a filter to block out the DC component of the input signal, thus also called as DC blocking capacitor. Here the capacitor C1 is acting as coupling capacitor. This is the simplest circuit for pre amplifier and we have used the same circuit for pre-amplification in our 555 based Amplifier.
